Slowly working my way through the chocolate
As you see, I'm a bit of a sampler, working on everything incrementally. I hope to be done by the end of the year.

A misguided solution
The premature summer has brought out ants in my room and so I've been clogging their entrance with salt so far, but that hasn't entirely deterred them. Today I decided ever so brilliantly to add perfume to the salt and then clog to both make a physical and scent barrier that they'd avoid. I have a bit of a cold so I didn't really notice the smell but after I came back from washing up, jesus.
Maybe after this week I won't be able to smell anything at all. I'll let you know if the ants come back...

Youtube Symphony Orchestra (YTSO)
Act 1
Wicked cool concept, and check out the attractive halvie cellist (first stand) :D There's a profile of him about 20 minutes in and while he may not be a productive member of society, well, many attractive people just aren't.
Both Acts have little bits of introduction by this guy who resembles the villain from the James Bond Move "Tomorrow Never Dies" (or something like that).
Act 2
*please* watch the first couple minutes. Very cute teamwork piano-playing by kids.
If you watch on, you can see Tan Dun going crazy insane. There's also Yuja Wang, a pianist whose talents are wasted not playing the Super Mario Bros. theme
Towards the middle and end of Act II things get experimental but with really ehhh results, but maybe if more of these YTSO concerts are done, maybe it'll get pretty cool...(optimism, ja?)

FWD: EZS Field Report #
----- Original Message -----
Dear Professor ******,
I'm aware that this email probably implies that I have spent the first half of my Friday night, "date night," finishing up this report in my lonely room but I hope that you would also consider the possibility that I am a very inconsiderate date.
Best,

Huge "small" shave ice
And that is indeed 3 different types of bean going on there. I was happy with it, albeit already like 102% full by the time we got it

"Beauty tea" Chrysanthemum and Licorice
So, we knew neither that it was $6 beauty tea, nor that it had licorice in it. Imagine our joy upon seeing the bill

There was actually dofu in here too. A much healthier version
(and on black day, no less!)

the $4 cold dish plus free stuff
We thought the dofu gar would be free, since like, it's just dofu gar with some coriander and sauce. O but then we saw the check

BK's children's meal
"apple fries," chocolate milk, chicken nuggets in the shape of "W" (or dinosaurs, couldn't tell), and Sponge Bob toy
Yeah, I'd be pissed off if I were this guy too
(I figured they were asking for money but the plaque [is that the sign or the stuff on your teeth?] said that this dude and his sons are actually like imprisoned and starving to death)

Mr Crab
So, apparently the important part of this painting is not Mssr Crab (who has little googly eyes, which you can't tell in this picture, helas) but actually this huge ass carp that was on the bottom of the scroll. Professor hl1u said that the jumping carp was an important image to those taking the civil service exams. So yearly some fish have to go through some weird jump (like salmon do, I suppose) over something so that they may spawn. Many exam-takers saw this as an equivalent sort of feat; if they could pass the exam they would become important scholar officials.
Apparently both the fish and takers would die if they didn't pass...?

Strawberry, Red Bean, Chocolate Mousse, Burnt Sugar
Christina's (Christine's?) Inman Square
Definitely going back
Burnt sugar was very good and I thought the red bean was awesome, though yzhou felt a bit differently
